sewing for a baby (no, I'm not pregnant!!!)

July 26, 2012

My very sweet friend Virginia is expecting her 4th baby in a few months.  She is having a little girl.  I know about girls!  :)  It's always so fun to sew for babies and so I was really excited to get to make some fun goodies for her!

My girls are blankie kids and so I knew that Virginia's baby needed a little lovie (or bubbie as they are called at our house).  I found this adorable pattern on Etsy and knew it would be perfect!  There are two versions of the pattern, each containing templates for 4 animal versions.  I chose the bunny since I loved the long ears.  The pattern was great!  Easy to follow and it came together really quickly.

The pattern calls for fleece but I thought a soft minky would be so much more snuggly.  I got this fantastic snuggle fabric (minky) from Lisa of Lisa's Stitching Post, my newest sponsor!!!  It is, by far, the nicest minky that I've ever seen!  Lisa has great prices and a fabulous selection of precuts!

I also made her a little changing mat.

The inside is white terry cloth.  I thought it would be both soft and practical.  The outside fabrics are from Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille.

And last but not least, I made her 3 bib and burp cloth sets because you can never have too many of either!  :)  I used my bib tutorial.

I used tiny 1/2"hexies on this set.  They are perfect for small accessories!

I used snaps instead of velcro on two of the bibs.  It looked a little more vintagy with the hexies and sweet tiny deer.

I know that lots of you have used my bib tutorial, please send me pics or post them in the lots of pink here flickr group so that we can all see them!!!

I love you Virginia!!!

summer sewing

July 20, 2012

I know it's been quiet around here lately.  I've just been concentrating on enjoying my family and our fabulous garden. We have gone to the beach quite a bit too.  But I am still sewing!!!

I've made a few baby doll sets.

The last one is in my shop.  They are so fun to make and perfect for little hands!  The patterns are from Bit of Whimsy.  I love her patterns for many reasons.  They are thorough and well written, she always gives several face options (awake, asleep, asian eyes), and the dolls are all good sizes for little hands.

I'm also working on a very special baby gift but I can't show it yet.  My sweet friend that is expecting is a blog reader and I don't want her to see what she's getting.  Hee, hee!

I've also gotten in quite a few new goodies for the fabric shop.  This fun baby deer print is from Lecien's Old New 30's collection.

Keeping with the deer theme, I also have Oh Deer precuts.  LOVING this line!  It's so bright and cheery.

This velvet and crochet ribbon is so sweet!  It would be perfect for zakka projects.

I have also been making lots of cuff bracelets.  I'll show you pics as soon as they are all finished.

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer!!!

I'm being featured!

My Pippa Cuff Tutorial is being featured over at Sew Can She today!!!  It is a great little scrap buster project!  I have instructions for making both an adult size and child's size.  They make awesome gifts too!

They would be really cute as a name tag for field trips or a medical bracelet for people with diabetes or other illnesses.  I've also been thinking up some fun ways to embellish them with trims or maybe even rhinestones.  Hopefully, I will have a post up about that soon.  :)

So welcome to all of you that hopped over from Sew Can She!!  I hope you will stay a while and have a look around!  And for those of you that aren't familiar with Sew Can She, run over NOW!!!  It's an awesome site that features a free tutorial every day, you just can't beat that!!!!
