So... this is what my shelf looks like these days!

Why you ask?  Because I've opened a little fabric store on etsy!!!!  Yea!!  I had been thinking about it for a while and just took the plunge.  I am so excited!  It will not be a huge store as I am planning on just carrying things that I really love!  Fun, bright and happy prints.

I have lots of coordinated bundles and am hoping to ad a few kits in the near future.  Please go and take a look and let me know what you think!

I can crochet!!!

There has been absolutely NO sewing going on here!  I haven't touched my machine in 6 days, it is the longest I have ever gone without sewing anything! (can you all sense my eye twitching in frustration?)  My youngest, Adelaide, has decided to stop napping, hence the sewing sabbatical.

But... I did learn to crochet!  :)  Vanessa linked to some really great shops and patterns on etsy in one of her last posts.  I had bought the cute bow pattern from this shop and made a few that turned out really cute.

I decided I was ready to try a more involved pattern and so I bought this one!  I really love my new fingerless gloves!  The pattern was easy to follow and had lots of great pictures, which a lot of crochet patterns lack.  The shop owner is a real sweetheart too, which is always nice!  She has a blog too with a few free patterns.  I would love to adjust the size of her belt pattern and make a bracelet out of it!!

I also bought this book from my local quilt/yarn shop and it has really come in handy.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to happen upon a layer cake and jelly roll of Aneela Hoey's upcoming line, Sherbet Pips.  If you haven't seen this line or Aneela's beautiful blog, you are missing out!!  She also has adorable embroidery patterns that she sells in her etsy shop.
Sherbet Pips is going to be such a great line!  The yardage doesn't come out until April but it is already on my "to buy" list.  I couldn't resist cutting up the jelly roll right away and have the quilt top all finished except for sewing on the outer border.  Here is a little sneak peek!!!

Who could resist those adorable pups and the girl on the swing is just so fabulous!  I love her little mary janes!!!

hooded scarf

I took a little break from sewing for the shop over the Christmas holiday.  I really hadn't sewn for my girls or myself since starting my little business and really missed it!  I have to admit that before this scarf I had never made myself any clothing!  I have made myself pincushions and bags but never anything else.  I have tons of patterns that I would love to make but just can't get around to it!  Oh the amount of projects that are on my to do list, it is SO long!!!
Anyway, I bought this cute pattern off of etsy.  I love the idea of a hooded scarf, fun and practical!  The pattern comes with 5 different styles that you can make and also comes with kid's sizes.  And a bonus is that it is reversible!!  I made the ruffled version and it was easy and fun to make!  The only change that I made was to add a layer of cotton batting in between the exterior and lining fabrics to make it a little warmer.  I am from the south and these New England winters just kill me, I don't think I will ever get used to the cold!  I can't wait to make one in some type of tweed or wool.

I know who will be getting one next!  :)

a little scary!

So... I am not a shopper!  Fabric, yes!  Clothing, no!  It isn't that I don't love fashion, because I DO!  I just hate the trekking lots of kids somewhere to torture myself trying on clothes, while trying to keep two little girls from peeking under the doors at other unsuspecting women trying on clothes.  All of you moms know exactly what I am talking about!!  Anyway, my adorable husband bought me a fancy pair of jeans for christmas.  He thinks I am thinner than I am, which is awesome, but also meant that I had to head to Nordstrom's this week to exchange my jeans.
While I was there I figured I would kill two birds with one stone!  I had gotten Adelaide a little blanket from Nordstrom's right before she was born and it is so loved!  "Bubbie" goes EVERYWHERE!!!  I am a little afraid that bubbie is not going to make it as long as Addie is going to need her (you will understand when you scroll down and see the pictures :).  So while we were in the store I went to get a backup bubbie.  I was totally shocked!  I knew bubbie looked rough and totally loved, but I could not believe that our bubbie was once the same color as the new bubbie!
While I am telling you all this long story that I am sure you are all so interested in :) I should also tell you about baby!  Baby is almost 70 years old.  She was made by my grandmother for my mom.  My mom gave her to Adelaide when she was born and she accompanies bubbie everywhere.  She is also shockingly rough looking!  :)  Both her nose and mouth have been loved off but her creepy eyes are hanging in there!  I assure you that bubbie and baby are both freshly washed and clean!!!!  Without further wordiness from me, here are bubbie and baby!  :)

"awake baby"

"sleeping baby"

"new bubbie" and the original!  Shocking!

this was the tag attached to "new bubbie"
we got a good laugh out of this one!
