sewing room makeover

I have to brag a little because I have a really awesome husband!  He is super supportive of my little hobby and shop and it was his idea to make my room over.  I know, lucky me!!!  He is also a very talented finish carpenter.  Right now my room has an almost completed bookshelf and some beautiful crown molding.  Trust me, this is way fancier than the rest of the house (although it is hard to tell right now with it still in the works)!  I have to pick a paint color and haven't nailed down exactly what I want.  Suggestions are always welcome!!  :)

It is going to be so awesome to move all of my stuff back in there.  Right now the necessities are in the den that we barely use, but it is right in the middle of our tiny house and you have to pass through it to go anywhere!  It is driving me a little crazy because it just looks like my sewing room blew up right in that space.

It wasn't so bad but the barn boards on the walls were rough and really unattractive.  We had bookshelves from our old apartment in Boston that were functional but weren't really suited for the space.  All in all, it just needs to be more user friendly and have a lot more storage. Here are some before pictures.

Here are a few pictures of the progress.  As you can see, the girls are also having a lot of fun playing in the little cubbies.

When I started thinking about opening an etsy shop, one of the things I really wanted to achieve was a cohesive theme.  I think when things flow well and mesh it gives a sense of professionalism and continuity that I really love.  I love making things for my shop and I wanted my buyers to be excited to get their package.  I wanted the packaging to be as exciting as what was inside.
When I found Laura Jane and started thinking of what I wanted the blog to look like, I knew I wanted it to go with the theme I had already established for my packaging.  I love paper and textures and color!  I wanted it to be fun and bright and fresh looking.  You have all, obviously, seen my blog but if you haven't ordered from me then you have no idea what my packaging or business cards look like.  I thought it might be fun to show you what I use!

The thank you tag and divine twine are from Whisker Graphics.  They have lots of really cute, editable printables that can be used for lots of things.  The mini paper clips can be found at any craft store or you can get really cute stained ones here.
I love glassine!  It is just transparent enough to give a glimpse of what is inside!
The washi tape is from pretty tape.

I also print these on sticker paper and use them to close the package on the back.

I use these to write a little note to my customer.  I am also planning on using them like this to display clips that I am making for the craft show.  I know, I am mentioning that craft show again, I think I will need a rest when it is over!  :)

This is my business card.  I hate throwing away my scraps and this lets me use even the smallest pieces and makes the card unique and colorful.
I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!  My sweet friend Lindsay is hosting a giveaway from me tomorrow, so if you would like a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to my shop stop by her adorable blog and enter!!!

We bought our little house almost 5 years ago.  We knew that we wanted an old house, something with lots of character and charm.  The second we drove up in front we both just knew that this was our house!  It is an almost 200 year old farm house and needs a lot of love.  Luckily, my awesome husband just happens to be a union finish carpenter.  He is doing most of the work himself, which is both good and bad.  Good, because it will be immaculate and exactly how we want it when it is finished.  Bad, because it takes forever!
When we bought it, it was an awesome shade of eggplant purple with green trim and we loved the color.  What we didn't love was our first winter and the heating bill that went with having a 200 year old house with no insulation.  So, Doug had to take off everything and insulate.  Our house has been multiple colors on the exterior as he sands and replaces all of the boards.  Two sides are finally complete!  We picked out paint and two sides are a beautiful grey!

I also made this cute wreath from this tutorial!

I am still plugging away getting ready for the craft fair that I am doing on Nov. 6th!  I am trying to do things in an assembly line.  Today I finished up these little mini wallets, they just need their snaps.

I also made a few key fobs...

We are also repainting the outside of our house, and when I say "we" I mean Doug.  I will have pictures soon!  :)

As you can see, I have a beautiful new look here on my little blog!  I wanted something fun and colorful!  I am hopeless with my computer but I am trying to learn.  The fabulous Laura Jane was so sweet and patient with all of my requests and tweaking!  I just love her!  She is a mom like all of us and was so great to work with.  If anyone needs help with their space, she is the one to go to!   Thanks so much Laura Jane!

I put together a super cute gift set to sell not only in my shop but also for the craft fair in November.  I tested the bib out on a great friend from high school that just had an adorable little girl.  She gave me a thumbs up, so we will see if others agree!

Cally from Calico also gave me the thumbs up to include her awesome diaper strap as part of the set.  I have made several for myself and friends and it is such a simple little thing but I am amazed at how handy it is!  I have one in my car and one in my purse and it keeps everything together so nicely.

So, I am sewing as fast as I can!  Hope everyone is having a great weekend!  I am glad it finally feels like fall here!
